Kostya Tszyu: Is He Afraid To Comeback?
Former light Welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu (31-2, 25 KO’s) has still yet to decide whether or not to pursue boxing. He has reportedly said, “I have a feeling that I failed to do something in professional boxing,” saying this to Russian news media. He also feels that, he doesn’t want to rush a decision. With that said, however, it appears that he has become in somewhat of a stuck state, where he is almost paralyzed since losing a close 12-round decision to British fighter, Ricky Hatton, in June 2005.
As things are now, I think it would be difficult for him to be successful in making a comeback, given the large amount of time that he has been away from boxing in the past 5 years. During this time, Tszyu has only had 4 fights, which is pretty dreadful, to say the least. Now that Tszyu is 37-years old, he is reportedly saying that he doesn’t want to make a decision until 2007, as if there is something magical about that number. It doesn’t seem like logical thinking, does it? I can somewhat see what Tszyu is trying to accomplish by avoiding the decision, namely, avoiding something terrible, like another loss, but by prolonging the ultimate decision, is making the negative outcome even more likely to come about, when/if Tszyu finally does come back. Hopefully, he makes a decision soon, before it’s too late.
