Roy Jones Jr. Wants To Fight Wladimir Klitschko
By Richard Rodriguez: Roy Jones Jr. (50-4, 38 KO’s), the former middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, has expressed an interest in fighting Wladimir Klitschko, according to the latest boxing news around the net, further saying “No one can whoop me.” Jones, 37, last fought on July 29, 2006, easily winning a 12 round decision over Prince Badi Ajamu, in Boise, Idaho. However, before this, Jones had lost his last three bouts, suffering horrific knockout loses to Antonio Tarver, (2nd round stoppage loss) in May 2004, and Glen Johnson (9th round stoppage loss), in September 2004.
While Hopkins appeared to be making an intelligent decision by wisely choosing Maskaev, for whom many feel is the weakest of the four heavyweight title holders, it looks like Jones is trying to top him to the extreme by fighting the best, in Wladimir Klitschko.
At this stage, it’s uncertain whether Wladimir would take the bait and shoot for a bout with Jones, but what thing remains certain, the fight would probably be much more popular than any of the current fights that have been mentioned for Wladimir, such as a bout against Maskaev, or a defense against Ray Austin, both of which are hardly interesting to the average fan.
