David Loiseau (14-5-0) 6’0”/185 lbs., fighting out of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, is an excellent striker who is known for having some of the most dangerous elbows in the sport. He has stopped Mark Weir, Gideon Ray, Charles McCarthy, and Evan Tanner in UFC competitions. Loiseau established himself as a top middleweight contender by defeating former champion Evan Tanner with crushing elbows at Ultimate Fight Night™ in October. Recently he fought Rich Franklin for the UFC World Middleweight title, losing by unanimous decision. Loiseau is ready to get back to his winning ways against Mike Swick at UFC 63.
Jens Pulver (21-6-1) 5’7”/155 lbs., fighting out of Davenport, Iowa, is the former UFC World Lightweight Champion. He became the champion after winning a majority five-round decision over Caol Uno at UFC 30. Less than a year later, he won his first title defense over Dennis Hallman with another five-round unanimous decision. Four months later, he headlined UFC 35 and delivered his second title defense in style, beating BJ Penn by yet another five-round majority decision. Pulver was on a hot winning streak, but soon found himself in a contract dispute with the UFC and as a result had to relinquish his title. Now on Sept. 23 Pulver makes his return to the UFC to fight his way back to the lightweight crown.
Joe Lauzon (12-3) 5’10”/155 lbs., fighting out of Bridgewater, Mass., is a submission specialist with strengths in grappling, wrestling and boxing. He is a talented 155-pounder who has held numerous titles in the lightweight division. Lauzon is making his UFC debut against Pulver, knowing well that a win over the former champion could make him a rising star in the UFC.
Also on the UFC 63 main card is a light heavyweight battle between Rashad Evans and Jason “The Punisher” Lambert, as well as a lightweight matchup between Gabe “Godzilla” Ruediger and Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard.
Rashad Evans (13-0) 5’11”/205 lbs., fighting out of Lansing, Mich., recently scored a high-profile and impressive unanimous decision over TUF1 fighter Stephan Bonnar in a three-round co-feature at UFC’s Ultimate Fight Night (6/28/06). Upholding a perfect record, Evans has built himself as a top lightweight contender through a series of wins by decision over tough opponents Sam Hoger, Brad Imes, and during TUF 2, Tom Murphy, Mike Whitehead and Keith Jardine. He now faces Jason Lambert in his UFC pay-per-view debut with high hopes of adding another win to his record.
Jason Lambert (22-5) 5’10”/205 lbs., fighting out of Apple Valley, Calif., is known for his power and aggression. He made an impressive debut at UFC 58 by submitting TUF2 fighter Rob MacDonald by kimura in the first round. Since then he stopped Terry Martin at UFC 59 in the second round (2:37) with a series of ground strikes, and defeated Brandon Lee Hinkle by TKO in the first round at Ultimate Fight Night (6/28/06). Lambert is on a three-fight UFC winning streak and is ready to take on Evans to prove himself as a superior light heavyweight.
Gabe Ruediger (10-2) 5’10”/155 lbs., fighting out of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., is a well- rounded fighter with an excellent ground game and boxing skills. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, Ruediger trained and earned his rank under famous black belt Rodrigo Mederios and is also a former WEC world lightweight champion. Now making his UFC debut, Ruediger will take on TUF2 star Melvin Guillard in a much anticipated lightweight matchup.
Melvin Guillard (38-6-3) 5’9”/155 lbs., fighting out of Salt Lake City, Utah, is an explosive fighter with good wrestling and striking skills. His brash personality made him stand out immediately on TUF2, but he showed he had more than just attitude with a decisive win over Marcus Davis at the TUF2 finale. After facing a setback against Josh Neer at Ultimate Fight Night (1/16/06), Guillard dropped down to 155 lbs. and returned at UFC 60 to KO Rick Davis with a single punch. He is back on the winning track and ready to take on Ruediger to score his second win in the lightweight division.
The remaining preliminary bouts for UFC 63: HUGHES vs. PENN will be announced in the near future.
