Englebrecht Announces Premier Mixed Martial Arts Series

Newport Beach, CA: Following up on 23 years of Battle In The Ballroom boxing success at the Irvine Marriott, fight promoter Roy Englebrecht today announced a new mixed martial arts series at his Marriott venue, with the kickoff event called SummerFist 2007 set for Thursday, June 28th. After selling out his first MMA show on April 1st, which was held at the Marriott on a Sunday at 5pm and in conjunction with Fight Promoter University, Englebrecht realized that a mixed martial arts market exists in Orange County and decided to become the MMA promoter in the area.

“I have decided to take the business template that was shaped for the Battle In The Ballroom boxing shows, and transfer it to mixed martial arts and create a series,” said Englebrecht. “We will launch the four date series with our June 28th SummerFist 2007 show, and follow it up with OctoberFist 2007 on October 31st (Fight Night On Fright Night), WinterFist 2008 in February and SpringFist 2008 in May.”

“I’ll let the UFC continue to fills arenas, and I’ll fill Ballrooms,” continued Englebrecht. “While the UFC showcases current MMA stars, we’ll debut the MMA stars of tomorrow, and we’ll do it with the lowest ticket prices in the sport. We will create an upscale evening of sports and entertainment in the 1,412 seat Grand Ballroom, continuing to elevate the WOW factor of mixed martial arts that the UFC has been so good at doing over the past several years.”

The June 28th SummerFist 2007 show announced today will be a solid eight bout card, featuring undefeated 5-0 Carlos “Wolverine” Quilon from Team Oyama, faces tough Ismael Gonzalez from Unbreakable Gym. In the semi main, another undefeated 5-0 fighter Fabio Nascimento also from Team Oyama meets 3-1 Jesse Taylor from Team Quest. In what could be a heavyweight war, Team Oyama’s 2-0 Shane Del Rosario battles 3-0 David Mejia out of the Ultimate Training Center in Riverside.

“We will be the first minor leagues for Mixed Martial Arts fighters, giving them every opportunity to be successful and move to the next level, and we’ll treat them like the professional athletes they are,” Englebrecht concluded.

Tickets for SummerFist 2007 are priced from $30 to $75 and go on sale to the public on Monday, June 4th at www.battleintheballroom.com.
