UFC 81 Mir and Nog put on Jui Jitsu Clinics!
By Mack Kay, fasterleanerstronger.com: This was a great card with a ton of hype coming for the first big MMA bout for Mr. Lesnar (when you’re that big they call you mister!). It was unfortunate for him that his WWE past over shadowed his NCAA honours but that’s the power of the media. Good on the big man for taking it in stride.
If the WWE did anything for him it was teach him how to interview and minimize the pre fight jitters of the crowd. Mandalay is a small venue compared to the crowds he has performed in front of. So many times before, we have seen guys in their first fight that are freaked right out from the lights, cameras, crowds, and atmosphere. Brock looked more annoyed than anything! Mentally he is as strong as his traps.
What an exciting 90 seconds to the fights end! Brock did look good even though he made a rookie mistake. One thing I would question is how hard he came out. He looked like a bull moose hammering through whatever what was in front of him. It would have been interesting to see how he looked after 4 minutes of trying to keep that pace. No question he was in shape, but that’s full out in action! The take down was a cinch for him obviously, but he was sloppy with the ground and pound. He knew who he was going in there with… a black belt in Jui Jitsu and yet he left every limb out there for Frank to attack. That’s poor training. Almost reminisce of Royce taking out all those guys who out weighed him by 100 + pounds. I guess no one told Brock about that.
Now is a good time for him to start from scratch. Source out a Jackson style camp and learn from the best. Brock does not need to be a BJJ guy, he just needs to know when a move is coming and react to it. Better yet to not get in a bad position at all. Those XXX size hands will do the rest! Finding more skilled training partners should be priority number one as he will never handle a guy like Nogueira if he can not handle Mir. He has a lot of work to do and he will. Excited for his next fight! Considering who took for his 2nd fight…… Wow!
Side note: Anyone notice how many times Rogan plugged WEC?? It’s like he got a bonus every time he mentioned them!
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is one tough son of a gun. Guy’s head is like a boulder. I actually laughed when Tim nailed him early on knowing it was just another shot to the head for that guy. The biggest surprise of the night was Sylvia did not enter the cage to 100 decibels of boo’s! I boo’d him though. I understand his style, I just don’t like it. He did look better than usual with his stand up and was able to slip out of some loose guard attempts by Nog. Once Nog dropped and swept him down it was clear he was in deep trouble. Every time he tried to back out Antonio was ready and would hook a leg. It was awesome. After seeing Nog beat Bob Sapp I knew that this would not be a standard 5 round sleeper fight. Minotauro is just too skilled. Great fight, great submission, and great legacy for Nogueira!!
I had just finished chirping out “Where’s Couture now!” when Nog said he hopes he will come back to fight him. I am a Randy fan but all this bickering with the UFC has gotten old. Did he get ripped off? Who knows, all I know is he is not hurting for cash so get over it. And to say that Fedor is the only guy he has left to fight is an over sight to Nogueira.
Look at Couture’s record and find a jui jitsu guy whom he has fought that actually took it to the ground and tried to sub him. It’s not there. This would be a huge fight for both guys. It’s legend on legend! Randy has one fight left to fulfill his contract and if he thinks that this fight is not big enough for him then his ego has blown out his reality. I doubt he thinks that but all he does is talk about Fedor. Beat Nog and that fight will happen, no way it can’t. Bottom line… Randy has more to prove that Fedor. The records speak for them selves.
Couture would be crazy not to take on Minotauro, my guess is it’ll happen by years end!
And who the hell is “Tim Boestch”??? I like him! Look forward to more from that guy!
