Joe Lauzon Open Media Workout
Photo by Emily Harney – UFC lightweight sensation Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon held an open media workout yesterday afternoon at his gym, Lauzon Mixed Martial Arts in Bridgewater (MA), in preparation for his main event fight February 7 on “UFC Fight Night 17,” broadcast live on Spike TV from the Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida.
Lauzon (17-4, 5 KOs, 12 submissions), star of The Ultimate Fighter 5 television reality show, learned only one day earlier (Wednesday) that Jeremy “Lil’ Heathen” Stephens (14-3, 10 KOs, 2 submissions) had replaced Joe’s original opponent, Hermes Franca (20-7), who suffered a knee injury (torn ACL) in training camp. Atencio Quashes Rumors of Affliction’s Demise
Earlier tonight Bloodyelbow.com broke a story entitled “Affliction is DONE”, which reports the rumor that Affliction Entertainment will cease promoting MMA events. Tonight on Sports Rage Uncensored with Gabriel Morency on Hardcore Sports Rage (Sirius 98), Affliction VP Tom Atencio said that the rumors were completely untrue and denied that the company was in financial peril. Hybrid Fighter Returns to the Boxing Arena
MMA combatant, Poppies “Tachi Kid” Martinez (16-5, 1 NC), makes his way back to the boxing ring after knocking out Ben Witthar in his pro debut. The “Tachi Kid” is the former PFC lightweight champion and held the WEC Native American and welterweight titles. World Championship Fighting Announces First Title Fight and Four Featured Bouts For March 14
World Championship Fighting today announced four featured fights for their March 14th show at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, Mass. Included on the card is their first ever title fight, which will take place in the 135 pound weight division. Dan Bonnell from Renzo Gracie NH looks to win his sixth fight in a row and bring the WCF New England Championship Belt to Renzo Gracie NH. He is one of only two fighters to compete on every WCF card, and has gone 5-0 in the WCF. His opponent will be former 145 pound kingpin Dan Ferrer, fighting out of Team Santos. Ferrer was victorious on WCF5, winning via first round submission over Ethan Kean and is eager to once again have a title belt around his waist. Read the rest of this entry »
Frank Trigg Headlines Rumble In Race Town
Xtreme Cagefighting Federation has released the much anticipated fight card for the Dyna-Pep “Rumble In Race Town”. The 10 fight event is scheduled for Saturday, February 14th at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. It will be the first ever MMA event held the same weekend of a major Motorsports event. Amidst great fanfare and international intrigue, South African heavyweight champion Rico “The White Lion” Hattingh entered the main event of the XFC “Clash of the Continents” supercard on December 5, 2008 with an 11-1 pro record, ten gold medals won from international wrestling competitions, a submission victory over UFC veteran Trevor Prangley, and universal recognition as the top heavyweight in all of Africa. photos by Gene Blevins – Hoganphotos/Golden Boy Promotions — A near capacity crowd rocked the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday night for Affliction M-1 Global “Day of Reckoning”, the promotions second highly successful MMA event. A paid attendance of 12,335 turned up for the loaded fight card including 11 action-packed bouts headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski.
The six-fight blockbuster pay-per-view telecast is STILL AVAILABLE to be purchased for viewing until February 23rd. Contact your pay-per-view provider to order. Ringside at the event were the ever-present Donald J. Trump alongside Oscar De La Hoya. The Hollywood caliber of audience included the likes of Jason Statham, Michael Clark Duncan, Scott Cahn among others. The crowd was also punctuated by presence of MMA fighters Jake Shields, Robbie Lawler and the legendary Royce Gracie.
