Jones Jr Breaks Up Lashley-Guida – Skirmish at Press Conference
At the final press conference in Pensacola yesterday, Bobby Lashley read some excerpts at the podium of what Jason Guida had been saying in the press. At that time, Guida shot back with, “This is a real fight. Not what you have been used to. This is not fake – these are real punches.” When it was time to do the “face-off” photo, the matter escalated to the point where Guida grabbed Lashley by the throat. “Promoter” Roy Jones, Jr. had to get between them to break it up.
XFC Announces Fights For Its First Televised MMA Event
When Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) president John Prisco brought the Southeast’s largest Mixed Martial Arts promotion to Knoxville’s Thompson-Boling Arena on February 20, his goal was to introduce live MMA to Tennessee sports fans by producing the first-ever professional MMA fight card in Tennessee state history. The Knoxville News Sentinel declared XFC 7: “School of Hard Knox” an “entertaining show,” remarking: “Thompson-Boiling Arena – like the state of Tennessee – has seen its share of sporting events through the years. But never anything like this.” Leading MMA website FightTicker.com raved: “Tennessee’s first sanctioned Pro MMA card saw a lot of action and some exciting upsets. Karo Parisyan Set To Face A Nine Month Suspension
by Adrian Neely – On Tuesday, The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended UFC welterweight Karo “The Heat” Parisyan for nine months. Karo tested positive for three banned painkillers following UFC 94 “St-Piere Vs. Penn 2.” Parisyan was also fined $32,000 and his split decision victory against Don Hyun Kim at UFC 94 was reversed, and ruled a no decision.
The 26-year-old Judo black belt will also have to submit random drug testing during the nine month duration. Although Karo was not forced to forfeit the $40,000 win bonus he received , The NSAC instead deducted 40-percent of his total $80,000 purse he earned at UFC 94. Read the rest of this entry »
Shannon Gugerty And Matt Grice Set To Collide At UFC 100
by Adrian Neely - Training out of San Diego, California, Gugerty (11-3), will square off against Oklahoma native Matt Grice (9-2) at UFC 100. Both of these young fighters are going to try and bounce back from tough losses in their last fights. Gugerty suffered defeat against a solid UFC veteran in Spencer Fisher. “The King” caught Shannon in a beautiful Triangle Choke at UFC 90.
