The imposing 6-4, 350-pound Sapp (10-3-1), who played in the NFL for four years before becoming an iconic combat fighter in Japan, wants to brawl on his feet while the chiseled 6-3, 265-pound former WWE star Lashley (2-0), 3-time NCAA champion (1996-98) and 4-time All-America wrestler at Missouri Valley College, prefers to ground and pound. “Ultimate Chaos,” presented by Prize Fight Promotions and Fight Force International, in association with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum, Treasure Bay Casino and Budweiser, is being produced and distributed by Gotham MMA and Integrated Sports at 9:00PM ET/6:00PM PT in the United States on cable and satellite via iNDemand, TVN and DirecTV for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

Sapp starred as an offensive lineman on the University of Washington’s football team, winning the prestigious Morris Award, and he was selected in the third round of the NFL draft in 1997 by the Chicago Bears. Bob turned to pro wrestling after football and was later recruited by PRIDE in Japan, where his incredible size, strength and bull-rush style made him an instant fan favorite. Silva v Griffin: A Win/Win Fight All Round

By Dean Parr- In an inspired piece of matchmaking, Joe Silva has arranged for the undisputed middleweight champion of the world, Anderson ‘the Spider’ Silva to fight the always exciting Ultimate Fighter 1 winner, Forrest Griffin at UFC 101.

This is a very shrewd move by the UFC bigwigs. Silva, who has fought all comers at 185lbs seemingly has nowhere left to go in the division after his decision win over jujitsu specialist Thales Leites, and taking into consideration he cruised through his last two fights with considerable ease, a move up in weight is exactly what Anderson needs. Forrest Griffin is the perfect opponent for him as well, as he is known for his fantastic workrate and heart, and he won’t let Silva set a lackadaisical pace like he has done during his last two contests. Quotes: Strikeforce Challengers on SHOWTIME May 15

KEN HERSHMAN “We’ve had SHOWTIME boxing for more than 20 years and ShoBox, our young up-and-coming boxing series, began in 2001. It was designed to give fighters valuable experience and valuable television exposure both at the same time to accelerate the popularity of their careers. That franchise has launched the career of more than 30 world champions. We couldn’t be happier with that franchise. ShoBox has really become the Kleenex of boxing defining what a young fighter is. We expect the Challenger series to be just that in the world of mixed martial arts.”

“The look and the feel of the Challenger series will be distinct and unique to itself. There will be less of the bells and the whistles that we bring to the big shows that would be a bit overkill in some of the venues that we’re going to be in. But there will be the same high quality standard we bring to every show.” Read the rest of this entry »
