A True Survivor, Lavar Johnson To Make Return To MMA Cage March 26 In Fresno

Six months ago, Lavar Johnson lay in a hospital bed, clinging to his life after he was gunned down while attending a family barbeque during the July 4 holiday. On Friday, March 26, the 32-year-old will enter a new chapter in his incredible recovery when he restarts his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career in the main event of a STRIKEFORCE Challengers fight card at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California on Friday, March 26.

Free Public MMA Weigh-In, Autograph Session Friday At BankAtlantic Center

All 24 fighters will participate in the final weigh in thisFriday, Jan. 29, just one day prior to the STRIKEFORCE mixed martial arts (MMA) fight card on Saturday, Jan. 30 at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT). The weigh in is open to the public, free of charge.

Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner, will make his MMA debut against Greg Nagy. The 47-year-old two-time Pro Bowler will compete in the cage the night before the Pro Bowl and one week prior to the Super Bowl. The 6-foot 1-inch, 220-pound Walker holds a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has experience in the combat disciplines of Muay Thai and Kenpo. Read the rest of this entry »

EA Sports To Offer Free, Live Stream of Riggs vs. Hieron From STRIKEFORCE: Miami This Saturday

NEW YORK (January 26, 2009)– For the first time in history, Electronic Arts Inc., (NASDAQ: ERTS) will offer live mixed martial arts (MMA) fight action online with a free of charge stream of the highly anticipated STRIKEFORCE welterweight (170 pounds) matchup between wrestling powerhouses Joe “Diesel” Riggs (32-10) and Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron (18-4) from BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida this Saturday, January 30.

The live stream of the STRIKEFORCE: Miami preliminary bout will begin at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on the official EA SPORTS™ MMA website (www.easportsmma.com), the online platform for EA SPORTS forthcoming MMA video game title in which STRIKEFORCE will be featured as a premiere league. X-1’s “Showdown” electrifies the crowd, and for a good cause

Honolulu, HI (USA): This past Sunday, January 17th, a “Showdown” took place at Waipahu High School. But this night of fights had a special purpose: to raise money for the school’s athletic department. Over 2,000 fans packed the school’s gym, and fight celebrities such as former UFC and StrikeForce fighter Falaniko Vitale, EliteXC veteran Kaleo Kwan, former world boxing champion Jesus Salud, and UFC fighter “The Crippler” Chris Leben were in attendance. It was a night of fantastic fights, and at the end of the event, fight fans were satisfied, and X-1 World Events was able to hand over a $5,000 donation check to the Waipahu High School Athletic Department. Plenty of firepower left in Gunn

Nathan Gunn had everything going for him in his MFC debut – that is until things went horribly wrong.

The welterweight prospect had a solid first round in his first fight under the spotlight, well enough to earn him the nod for taking the opening five minutes against veteran Pete Spratt on the MFC 22: Payoff card. Tickets On Sale Friday For Strikeforce Challengers Feb. 26 At San Jose Civic

World championship mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion STRIKEFORCE will return to its roots when it brings its Challengers fight series to The Civic Auditorium in San Jose, Calif., on Friday, Feb. 26. Topping the card will be a middleweight (185 pounds) contest between wrestling powerhouse Trevor Prangley (22-5) and Karl Amoussou (11-2-1).

Undefeated power puncher Sarah Kaufman (10-0) will clash with Japan’s Takayo Hashi (12-1) in the first STRIKEFORCE women’s world bantamweight (135 pounds) championship matchup in history while Luke Rockhold (6-1), one of MMA’s brightest up and comers, will take on Paul Bradley (12-1) at middleweight, in one of the featured fights. Penner ready to pay the Price

Nick Penner was happy with getting the win but not by the methods with which it came.

He learned a lesson about preparation, and is taking it to heart as he prepares for his next fight which comes with another test of its own. Penner (9-1), one of the top prospects in the Maximum Fighting Championship, puts his six-fight winning streak on the line at MFC 24: Heat XC when he takes on Chris “The Exorcist” Price (15-3). Diaz, who will put a five fight win streak on the line, is making his first start since he submitted hard-hitting Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith on June 6, 2009.
