Two fights added to “King of the Cage Japan: Toryumon”
Update KOTC Japan: Two additions have been added to the KOTC Japan card set to take place at the Okinawa Convention Center January 30, 2010. The first addition is a Heavyweight match-up featuring Scary Jerry Vrbanovic (USA) vs. Koji Kanechika (Japan). Scary Jerry Vrbanovic the Crazy Croation’s last fight was way back in 2004 in the King of the Cage. Scary Jerry is known for his “take a punch to deliver two” attitude, which makes for an action packed heavyweight slug-fest. Scary Jerry wants his fans to know he is back and will represent the USA proudly! His opponent Koji “Takauji” Kanechika representing Japan comes into the cage with a 4-2 record and a 3 fight winning streak. The second additional fight added is the women’s bantamweight bout between Roxanne Modafferi (13-5 ) and Molly Helsel (8-8). Roxanne is a veteran of Strikeforce, who brings in an impressive record of 13 wins and 5 losses. Roxanne said in a recent interview “I hope it’s a brawl, I’m in the mood”. Her opponent Molly Helsel is also a veteran of the ring and is a submission specialist. Five of her eight wins by submission. An expected intense showdown between two veteran lightweights will headline the card set for MFC 24: Heat XC on Friday, February 26.

Lauzon Hopes To Appear At UFC Debut In Boston
Despite losing a decision January 2 to Sam Stout, popular lightweight Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon (18-5, 5 [T]KOs, 13 submissions) hopes that his next fight will be this August in UFC’s debut in Boston.
Lauzon, a native of E. Bridgewater (MA), would certainly be a hometown favorite fighting at the Boston Garden. “We’ll see how it goes but I certainly want to fight at home in Boston,” Lauzon said. “I’d like to fight before that, where my fight against Stout was my first in 10 months, but not if it risks fighting in Boston this August.” Read the rest of this entry »

Phenom Bao Quach Signs With Belator
Bellator Fighting Championships continued to solidify its much-talked-about featherweight division today with the announcement that Bao Quach, one of the world’s most devastating 145-lb. strikers, will compete in the promotion’s Season 2 tournament.

Mixed Martial Arts Promoter Donofrio To Donate To The Victims Of The Earth Quake In Haiti
AUBURN HILLS, MI—Mixed Martial Arts promoter Joseph Donofrio announced today that he will donate a portion of the proceeds of his January 30th MMA show at the Palace of Auburn Hills to the victims of the earth quake in Haiti. Wilson Gouveia’s Move to MFC is a “Big Deal”

American Top Team’s Wilson Gouveia (12-7) has inked a big return to mixed martial arts. Monday he signed a multi-fight deal with Maximum Fighting Championship and will fight Canadian star “Big Deal” Ryan Jimmo (12-1) at MFC 25: Vindication at the Winspear Centre/Enmax Hall in Edmonton, Alberta April 9.

X-1 World Events: “Showdown at Waipahu” takes place this weekend
Honolulu, HI (USA): This Sunday, January 17th, 2010, X-1 World Events will bring professional boxing to Waipahu, Hawaii, the hometown of some of Hawaii’s greatest boxers, such as former world champion Jesus Salud and current world champion Brian Vilora. “A Father’s Fight” MMA Documentary Advance Screening 1/22 in Brockton
On The Mark & Televisual Productions present an advance screening of the documentary A Father’s Fight starring Mark Chaupetta on Friday night January 22nd at The Shaws Center. The movie was co-directed by Peter Czymbor and Ron Van Dam.

VERSUS To Re-Air Sunday’s World Extreme Cagefighting Fights Tonight
VERSUS, the cable television home of World Extreme Cagefighting® (WEC®), will re-air a night of action-packed fights from Sunday’s WEC event tonight at 8 p.m. ET. The two and a half hour presentation featured five fights including the lightweight championship bout between Jamie Varner (16-3-2) and Ben Henderson (11-1).

Campbell is 7-2 overall, and is 2-0 in the WCF with 2 first round TKO wins. Campbell moves down to his optimal fight weight of 155 lbs. to take on his toughest opponent to date in the new weight class. Stevens is a dominant wrestler with fantastic ground and pound, and was 4-0 in 2009 (12-4 overall) with big wins over Hitalo Machado and “Mr. Big” Al Buck.
