In the main event, unbeaten Sarah Kaufman (10-0) and Takayo Hashi (12-1) will collide in the first-ever STRIKEFORCE women’s world 135-pound (welterweight) championship. By MFC Staff – The MFC 24: Heat XC bout between Jared Kilkenny and Jason Kuchera has been cancelled after Kilkenny backed out of the fight the day of the weigh-in.
No explanation was given for his last-minute refusal to fight. It is a disappointing turn of events for Kuchera who had worked diligently to get into top physical condition for the encounter. Kuchera, who had even agreed to take the bout at a catchweight of 210 pounds to accommodate Kilkenny, was eyeing a knockout victory that would have put him back in the mix amongst the Heat XC’s top light heavyweights. Showtime Networks and Verizon announced today the launch of the first nationwide, high-definition interactive television application (iTV) using EBIF (Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format), with the new SHOWTIME Sports Interactive. Former Olympian and undefeated MMA fighter Rick Hawn is scheduled to fight New Jersey native Tom Gallicchio on WCF 9, which takes place Friday, February 26 2010 from the Shriner’s Auditorium in Wilmington, MA. Hawn is a four time national champion in Judo, and finished in the top 10 at the 2004 Olympics. He trains under both Jimmy Pedro and Mark Dellagrotte, and has started his MMA career at a blistering pace, going 5-0 is less than a year. Gallicchio has won 7 out of his last 8 fights, and has the majority of his wins by submission. He represents a step up in competition for Hawn, and the crowd is sure to love this one. By MFC Staff – An injury late in training for the MFC 24: Heat XC co-main event has dropped David Heath from Friday’s card, but his teammate Ryan McClain has stepped up to the challenge.
McClain (9-3), who like Heath hails from Tulsa, Oklahoma, will meet Dwayne Lewis (10-4) in a light heavyweight tussle with Lewis looking to extend his winning streak to seven straight. Heath suffered what has been initially diagnosed as a partially torn right bicep while sparring late last week. He continued to train right up until Saturday and still was looking forward to fighting until a final visit to the doctor on Monday. Read the rest of this entry »
