Fedor Signs With Strikeforce, M-1 Global To Promote No. 1 Heavyweight

fedor-eNEW YORK (August 3, 2009)–-After a week of intense negotiations and speculation, the hottest topic of discussion in the professional fight world has come to a head as the world’s number one heavyweight and most sought after mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko has signed a historic, multi-fight agreement that will see him headline mega-events co-promoted by world championship promotions STRIKEFORCE and M-1 Global.

Emelianenko, known globally as Fedor, will make his premium television debut this Fall when his first fight under the new agreement airs live on SHOWTIME®. Up until now, Emelianenko’s live fights have aired exclusively on pay-per-view in the United States.

“I am looking forward to going back to work and fighting at the highest level,” said the 33-year-old Emelianenko. During his nine year professional fight career, which included a four and a half year stay with the world’s former top MMA promotion, the now defunct PRIDE Fighting Championship, the Russian native has faced and defeated all comers. Looking at the UFC heavyweight picture

By Dustin Heronemus - Fedor Vs Brock is the hot topic of speculative discussion these days with the amazing collapse of Affliction Entertainment and the sudden availability of what many consider the greatest MMA fighter alive, and unarguably one of the best heavyweights in any promotion. Fedor Emelianenko ( 30-1-1) in his MMA career, the so called Last Emperor, is making headlines with the ongoing negotiations with the UFC, itself an undisputed heavyweight champion of the MMA world. The matters are complicated by what many consider to be unrealistic demands made by the fighter’s representatives with M-1 Global, and too much exposure to the media about the contract talks. The fact that the fans want to see Fedor in the Octagon to battle it out with Brock Lesnar (4-1) the upstart former pro wrestler and current UFC Heavyweight champ, means that Dana White, UFC President and official mouthpiece also wants it. Dana has never appeared to be a big fan of Fedor and has often criticized his management as being difficult to deal with and the current issues seem to reinforce that argument. But he is a smart businessman and giving the fans what they want is only going to make him and the UFC more money. Read the rest of this entry »

Fedor Emelianenko Press Conference

Fedor Emelianenko Steals Glory Back From Lesnar

fedor-eEven in promotions he doesn’t fight for, Fedor is the star. In the wake of Brock Lesnar’s current heavyweight win, Fedor Emelianenko is the talk of the town. Leave it to Fedor to steal another man’s fire without ever uttering a word. Lesnar’s bad behavior at his recent victory has his name appearing in all kinds of sports and mainstream media venues. But much of the attention gets instantly shifted away from his WWE-style antics to a potential match-up between him and the wildly acknowledged heavyweight champion of the world-Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko.

It seems that Lesnar is being cast as the MMA villain du jour. And since every villain needs a hero, media and fans alike seem to prefer Fedor as the man for the job. Instead of celebrating Lesnar’s victory or simply descrying his after-fight performance, many are looking for vengeance. And the one to provide his medicine, they have decided is the world’s ultimate heavyweight champ-Fedor. Disgruntled fans angry at his unsportsmanlike behavior think Fedor would teach Lesnar a painful lesson. Fedor’s name has appeared in every article written about the recent match, and in editorials and chatrooms around the world. If this should be a time for Lesnar to bask in his notoriety, it seems that all the attention is going to The Last Emperor. It’s as if Lesnar handed his victory over to the WAMMA Heavyweight Champion on a platter. Everyone, everywhere is talking about Fedor. Read the rest of this entry »

Facing Fedor Emelianenko In The Ring

fedor222.jpgWatching Fedor Emelianenko “made me nervous tonight,” said Josh Barnett about Fedor’s bout with Andrei Arlovski at Afflictions “Day of Reckoning”. Barnett will face Fedor on August 1st at Affliction M-1 Global’s “Trilogy.” He is probably wondering, like all fight fans and fighters on earth: can Fedor be beaten or is he invincible? The single loss on Fedor’s record is often disregarded as evidence of his vulnerability, since it was due to a cut resulting from an accidental (and illegal) elbow by Tsuyoshi Kohsaka. Even with this one debatable blemish on his record (he went on to later beat Kohsaka in a follow-up match), Fedor is the most revered heavyweight in the world by fighters and fans alike.

Fedor is one of those rare fighters that has staying power who consistently outperforms his competition. One of the things that makes Fedor a legend is his resilience. Fedor takes a beating and keeps on beating his opponents-he has been dazed by Kazuyuki Fujita’s right hook, broken his hand on Gary Goodridge’s head, been suplexed by Kevin Randleman, fought off the impressive ground skills of Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, recovered from Mirko Filipovic’s brutal lefts to the face, endured Mark Hunt’s keylock, reversed Matt Lindland’s attempted bodylock takedown, overcome the giant Tim Sylvia, and survived the boxing skills of Andrei Arlovski. In the end, whether or not he has taken some blows, Fedor prevails over his opponents and deals out the final punishment. Read the rest of this entry »

Josh Barnett: All-American Superhero

With his chiseled jaw and Mr. Incredible looks, Josh “The Babyfaced Assassin” Barnett could be the leading man in a Hollywood film or a character straight out of the anime that he loves so much. He has a superhero frame—at 6’3”, 250 pounds, one can almost picture the “Babyfaced Assassin” wrapped in a cape, standing atop a tall building, scanning the city below for any evil doers. He is a well-spoken, charismatic figure whose persona is as compelling as his impressive fight record.

Josh’s showmanship has won him many exuberant fans, making him a kind of cult icon to his admirers. But it’s his down-to-earth behavior that has gained him a reliable supply of die-hard followers. A self-proclaimed nerd, the heavyweight is a big fan of video games, comic books, anime, and muscle cars, much like his fan base, who easily relate to him and his favorite pastimes. He often speaks frankly and has been known in the past to get on message boards and debate with fans and other fighters. Read the rest of this entry »

Fedor Emelianenko – Josh Barnett Quotes
