Former Olympian Rick Hawne grabs hard-fought win at WCF 9

Promoter Joe Cavallaro once again proved why his event is consider among the best on the east coast, putting on a show free from controversy in front of a well-behaved and excited crowd. Former Olympian and undefeated MMA fighter Rick Hawn is scheduled to fight New Jersey native Tom Gallicchio on WCF 9, which takes place Friday, February 26 2010 from the Shriner’s Auditorium in Wilmington, MA. Hawn is a four time national champion in Judo, and finished in the top 10 at the 2004 Olympics. He trains under both Jimmy Pedro and Mark Dellagrotte, and has started his MMA career at a blistering pace, going 5-0 is less than a year. Gallicchio has won 7 out of his last 8 fights, and has the majority of his wins by submission. He represents a step up in competition for Hawn, and the crowd is sure to love this one. Huge punchers and exciting 125 pounders added to WCF 9
Don’t blink in this one. Two of the areas lightest and most talented fighters have been added to WCF 9. USMMA’s Matt Martin is set to take on Bombsquad’s Peter Cole at 125 pounds. Matt had a recent win for WCF over Nik Patnaude, in a fight in which he used his wrestling and Brazilian Jui-Jitsu to out work Patnaude and win a unanimous decision. He’s currently ranked among the top 5 fighters in New England under 135 pounds. Mike Campbell vs Marc Stevens to headline WCF 9 February 26
Fresh off a win at WCF 8, WEC Veteran Mike “The Beast” Campbell is set to headline WCF 9 when he takes on tough NY native, Marc Stevens. Campbell is 7-2 overall, and is 2-0 in the WCF with 2 first round TKO wins. Campbell moves down to his optimal fight weight of 155 lbs. to take on his toughest opponent to date in the new weight class. Stevens is a dominant wrestler with fantastic ground and pound, and was 4-0 in 2009 (12-4 overall) with big wins over Hitalo Machado and “Mr. Big” Al Buck. In what promises to be a war, Pro-Elite/Elite-XC Veteran Fred Belleton makes his return to World Championship Fighting when he takes on the Team Santos product, Keith Jefferey. When Belleton last fought for WCF, he was victorious in one of the night’s featured fights with a viscous head kick KO. While this is Jefferey’s WCF debut, he’s no stranger to MMA and has been one of the very best 185 pounders in New England for years. A match up like this is truly not something you see too often. Local 7 Iron Worker, and frequent WCF Fighter John Benoit takes yet another tough fight when he takes on American Top Team’s Hitalo Machado. Benoit was very impressive in his recent win at WCF 7 over Damien Trites, and he looks to keep the train rolling against Machado. Machado makes his WCF debut, but is no stranger to the local fans. World Championship Fighting 7 Results
On June 27, 2009 World Championship Fighting presented what many fans are calling their best fight card ever, live from the Shriner’s Auditorium in Wilmington, MA. While there was no marquee main event featuring fighters who already have national recognition, the card was filled with fighters ready to break into the national spotlight. As usual for WCF, the crowd was filled with a who’s who of MMA stars. UFC Fighters Jorge Rivera and John Howard joined Mark DellaGrotte, Sean Gannon and former Middleweight Boxing Champion Dana Rosenblatt were in attendance, along with actor Kevin James, who is filming a movie locally. World Championship Fighting Announces Four Featured Bouts For June 27th
World Championship Fighting today announced four featured fights for their June 27th show at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, Mass. In a fight that will no doubt have title implications, lightweight Calvin Kattar from Premier Fight Team in Derry, NH makes his return to the WCF stage to take on undefeated Rodrigo Almeida. Calvin has been on fire as of late, winning 3 fights in a row, all in less than a minute. One of those 3 wins took place at WCF5, and was a 49 second submission win over Bobby Dias. Almeida has managed to keep his record unblemished at 4-0 in his young career and was impressive in his WCF4 victory over Jose Lopez. In front of a packed house of 4000 people at World Championship Fighting 6, Dan Ferrer won the first ever WCF Title fight, defeating Dan Bonnell by first round submission. Bonnell had won 5 fights in a row, all with WCF, but Ferrer put a stop to that at 2:48 of round one with a kimura.
